Since the nights of bombing of WW2 a dead gap is yawning in the urban space opposite the Worms Cathedral. After 60 years of temporary usage as parking lot the gap shall be closed now and the Cathedral obtain a worthy counterpart.

The construction will not only provide a restaurant, a vinotheque, an ice cafe and a panorama terrace. At the same time the urban space will get back its clear historic shape. Views on the cathedral are focused, new fascinating perspectives are generated. Between the new building an the youth hostel a new small square is formed, welcoming to linger under the old sycamores.

The design language of the 'cathedral terraces' is a eine cautious modern interpretation of its historic surroundings. Beside moderne elegance it reflects the character of the regional und traditional Worms architecture.

In cooperation with H. Schembs, Worms.
